Within many organizations test environments are filled with copies of production data. The use of production data for testing purposes involves two major issues:
- Production systems usually contain (privacy sensitive) personal data. The use of this data entails a real privacy risk and may result in brands damage or harm a organizations reputation. In addition, the legislator has forbidden to use personal data containing production data for testing purposes.
- The (increasing) size of production systems often results in increasing test data also claiming a substantial (and unnecessary) part of resources. Besides the extra use of storage, it also impacts the time needed to deploy a ready to use a test environment.
